Candle Care Tips

Soy wax has a "memory", meaning it will melt only to the edge of where it was extinguished the last time it was burned. We recommend the first time you light your candle, to burn it for a few hours until the entire top is liquid wax - all the way to the edges of the glass. That way, the candle will burn cleanly down the sides of the glass.

Trim your candle wick using scissors or a wick trimmer to 1/4 inch before every time you light your candle and remove all trimmings before the next use. This will extend the life of your candle and will prevent the flame from smoking. If your candle flame is smoking, check the height of your wick and remove from drafty areas. If there is soot build-up on the glass of your candle, you may wipe it clean with a damp cloth once the candle is extinguished and completely cool.

Our senses are designed to naturally acclimate to our surroundings, so you may notice that if you stay in the same room as your candle for an extended period of time, you will stop smelling your candle as strongly. This is completely normal. Simply step out of the room for a few minutes and return. You will notice that the scent is stronger than you noticed before. Also, the diameter of the candle affects the size of the room that can be fragranced. For a more sizable room, choose a candle with a wider diameter that creates a larger melt pool. You may also burn multiple candles in the same room to intensify the fragrance. Our candles get stronger as they age, which means that if you received a freshly-poured candle, the fragrance will get stronger in 1-2 weeks as it cures.

A draft is your candle’s worst enemy.  Keep your candle away from ceiling fans, high traffic areas, and vents.  Aside from being a safety issue, a moving flame can also cause uneven burning and black soot around the jar. Never leave a candle unattended and keep out of reach of children and pets. Extinguish a candle if it repeatedly smokes, flickers, or the flame is too high. Burn your candle between one and four hours at a time for best results.
